How to create a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

A guide to the individual, filtered, and dedicated PCF creation flows

Creating Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) reports

You can create Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) reports from the Transactions area of the CarbonChain platform.

There are two common types of PCF report:

  • Individual trade PCF — a report covering a single trade.

  • Grouped PCF — a report covering a collection of trades, for example the full volume of a product sold to one customer.

This guide covers the three ways to create these reports, including the new dedicated PCF creation flow. You can also watch the below recording too!

Option 1: Create a PCF for a single trade

  1. Go to the Transactions area and find the trade in the list.

  2. Click the trade to open it.

  3. Review the trade's submissions.

  4. Click View report. This generates the PCF report for that trade.

Option 2: Create a grouped PCF using filters

You can build a grouped PCF directly from the transactions list:

  1. In the Transactions area, apply filters to narrow the list — for example by customer name, product and year.

  2. As the list filters down, a prompt appears at the bottom of the page: Create PCF reports for selection.

  3. Fine-tune your selection using the checkboxes next to each trade. If a trade shouldn't be included, untick it. You can deselect one or several trades without changing your filters.

  4. Click Create PCF reports for selection to generate the report.

Tip: The checkboxes are useful when your filters get you most of the way there, but one or two trades still need to be excluded.

Option 3: Create a grouped PCF from the dedicated PCF flow

We've added a flow that makes grouped PCFs easier to build. Instead of layering filters in the transactions list, you can select everything from a single page:

  1. In the Transactions area, click Create Product Carbon Footprint Reports.

  2. All available filters are shown on one page. Use them to select the trades you want to include.

  3. The page tells you how many reports will be generated. Reports are split by product — if your selection covers three different products, three separate reports are created.

  4. If you only want a report for one product, deselect the other products before generating.

  5. Generate your reports.

Why use this flow? It brings every filter into one place, so you can build your selection in a single pass rather than adding filters one at a time in the transactions list.

Coming soon

We're improving the Product Footprint reports area next. Instead of seeing every report across your whole account, you'll be able to quickly find the reports relating to specific customers and products. A guide on this will follow shortly.
