The Data Sharing module is where you manage who you’re exchanging CBAM datasets with, what access they have, and the current status of each relationship - upstream (companies you buy from) and downstream (companies you sell to).
How Data Sharing connects to other modules
Supplier Catalogue = the place you find and use supplier CBAM datasets (by operator/installation). When a sharing relationship is Accepted, the shared datasets become available to you via the Catalogue for downstream workflows (e.g., calculations and reporting).
Installations module = where producers/operators prepare and maintain their installation-level CBAM dataset “once”, then share it securely with multiple customers. Data Sharing is the access layer that determines which downstream customers can see what.
Why this matters: Data Sharing makes supplier engagement clearer and more trackable (requests, acceptance, revokes), which is core to scaling request volume and acceptance.
Using the Upstream tab (request data from suppliers)
Use Upstream when you want supplier/operator data shared to you.
Go to CarbonChain Connect → Data Sharing → Upstream
Find the supplier/operator you want to work with
Check Status and Data Shared to understand what’s happening:
If Status = Pending, the request has been sent but the supplier hasn’t activated/accepted yet.
If Status = Accepted, data sharing is active and the shared scope is shown in Data Shared.
Use the action on the right:
Accept = accept a data set being shared with you from a supplier.
Reject = reject a data set being shared with you from a supplier.
Cancel = withdraw a request that’s still pending.
Use the Call to Action above the table to:
Request data from all suppliers
Request data from a filtered sub-set of suppliers
Tip: Once accepted, you’ll typically work with the data through the Supplier Catalogue (filter/search suppliers, view datasets, and use them downstream).
Using the Downstream tab (share your data with customers)
Use Downstream to share your CBAM datasets with customers (buyers) - these can either be your own installations or data shared with you from your suppliers.
Go to CarbonChain Connect → Data Sharing → Downstream
Click Add downstream customer (top right) and add their organisation/contact
Track their activation:
Pending = invite/request sent, not yet activated
Accepted = they can access the scope shown under Data Shared
Manage access with actions:
Share all data = grant access to all shareable datasets (broadest access)
Revoke = remove access (they’ll no longer be able to view your shared datasets)
What the fields mean (applies to both tabs)
Operator / Organisation
The company you’re sharing data with (downstream) or requesting data from (upstream).Contact
The email/contact tied to the request (or N/A if no named contact is recorded yet).Data Shared
The scope of data access for that relationship (e.g., Pending activation, All data, or a limited shared dataset count (e.g. just one installation or product)).Created
When the connection/request was created.Last Updated
The last time the relationship changed (e.g., accepted, scope updated, revoked).Status
Current state of the relationship:Pending = awaiting activation/acceptance
Accepted = active sharing
Cancelled = request withdrawn (or no longer active)
Common workflows
I’m an importer chasing suppliers: Use Upstream to see who’s pending vs accepted, then use Supplier Catalogue once data is shared.
I’m a producer sharing with multiple EU customers: Maintain your dataset in Installations, then control who can see it via Downstream in Data Sharing.
I need to stop access immediately: Use Revoke on the relevant downstream relationship.
